When 2012 started I had not idea just how busy I would actually be!! Now that the end of April is near, here are a few reminders:
1) Operation Military Kids Creative Arts Competition (open to all 4-Hers ages 9-18, as of Jan. 1) is due by Monday, April 30. This competition gives youth across NC the opportunity to support the military and youth whose parents serve in the military, by drawing pictures or taking photographs with patriotic themes. For more details please contact me.
2) NC 4-H Citizenship Focus Applications are due this week (preferably by 5pm today, Tuesday, April 24). I have to have enough time to look over them and sign them, before I mail them to the state office (due in state office by May 1). Teens 14 + (as of Jan. 1)
3) AIRE applications are due this week (by Friday, April 27), this is how you can earn your way to go to National 4-H Congress, or 4-H Conference (highly recommend). Teens 14 + (as of Jan. 1)
4) Health Rocks - any teen interested in going to the TRY (Teens Reaching Youth) training the weekend of May 18-20 (all expenses paid), to be trained in the Health Rocks curriculum (substance abuse prevention) needs to get their applications in this week (preferably by today). Teens 14 + (as of Jan. 1)
5) Practice AIRE competition open to youth ages 11-13 (as of Jan. 1), to get the experience of doing an interview and learning how to construct a resume, application is due this week.
6) Science Day is being held on April 27, at the Jones Co. Civic Center, for students in grades 3-5. County Council members who are planning to help need to be at the Civic Center no later than 8:30am. If you need a ride to the civic center from your school, please have a note from your parents stating I can pick you up at 8:15am. Also if I am picking you up from school please be in your front office, ready to go, so I don't have to wait for you to be called out of class. I will return you to school at 2:30pm, unless you/your parents make arrangements ahead of time, to have you picked up at the civic center or my office.
8) Volunteer hours - the Jones County Health Department is having their annual Walk-A-Thon this Saturday (April 28) from 10am - noon. They are in need of volunteers to help with registration, to run the bounce house, and work water stations, if you can help, please let me know ASAP!
7) The Responsible You event will be held May 4, at the Jones Co. Civic Center for sixth and possibly seventh grade students, from 9am - 11am, if you volunteered to teach a station at that event, please be set up and ready to teach. Again for teens who are teaching if I need to pick you up from school, please have a note from your parent or guardian stating I can pick you up at 8:30am. I will return you to the school at 11:15am.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Jones County Extension Office at 252-448-9621.
